2018 Florida Biennial Open Call to Artists

2018 Florida Biennial
The 2018 Florida Biennial presented by the Art and Culture Center/Hollywood is open to artists residing in the state of Florida working in any medium with any subject matter. This ninth edition focuses on exploring multicultural identities, discussing ecological issues, and imagining a robust cultural climate for Florida within the global economy. The exhibition opens September 14 and will run through Oct. 21, 2018.

Dates/Timeline
  • April 1: Submissions Open
  • June 11: Deadline
  • June 25: Announcement of participating artists

Honorarium
  • Jurors Pick - $1000
  • Honorable Mention - $500
For the first time in our history, all selected artists will be awarded a stipend to refund their submission fee to defray exhibition costs, as well as a Friend-level membership. The membership is part of the North American Reciprocal Program, providing free admission to nearly 1,000 art and culture institutions.

Sarah Fritchey
Sarah Fritchey is the Curator and Gallery Director at Artspace in New Haven, Conn. Her practice seeks to ignite conversations around the body, identity, representation, and the need for greater equity in the arts. Artspace is a Working Artists and the Greater Economy (W.A.G.E.) Certified non-profit organization championing emerging artists and building new audiences for contemporary art in a 5,000 square-foot space. In addition to her full-time role at Artspace, Fritchey has curated and written independently for many notable institutions, including the NYPOP Gallery NYC; the African American Museum in Philadelphia; Queens College in New York; Hessel Museum of Art at Bard in Hudson; UMass Amherst; Artscope Magazine; Big, Red and Shiny; and Artforum.com.
