Kinetic-art pioneer Carlos Cruz-Diez lights up MAM - Visual Arts - MiamiHerald.com -- posted by Florida Fine Art Blog

Kinetic Art has been showing up more and more at Art Basil Miami.  This past year almost all the top gallery booths had at least one peice of kinetic sculpture.  Often very architectural in form they always draw a crowd and are some of Christine's favorites. GL

A Night of Art with Steve Martorano! -- posted by Florida Fine Art Blog

One of the best restaurants in South Florida, Martorano's is an adventure to say the least.  Very hard to get a table but well worth the wait.  And a great spot to celebrity watch.  The two times I was there I sat next to Dolphins legend Dan Marino.  He must really like the sauce!  Well Steve Martorano has built a new larger place at the Hard Rock.  So now a table on a Friday night seems a little more possible.  It is also great to see he is giving back by helping the arts community. ARTIST SPOTLIGHT -- Purvis Young 1943-2010 -- by Florida Fine Art Blog

Miami Overpass with Mural by Purvis Young

Purvis Young’s funeral was held at Mt Zion Baptist Church in Overtown, Miami this past Saturday.  Family and friends walked together following Purvis’s casket down Third Avenue from Gibson Park to the Church.  The buildings surrounding Mt. Zion have recently been revitalized as with most of the surrounding neighborhood.  New and refurbished housing and clean public spaces filled with parks and community gardens line the streets complete with new wide sidewalks decorated with colorful pavers.  It all started with Purvis and his “Wall of Respect”.

Great article with "Florida Highwaymen" Mary Ann Carroll -- posted by Florida Fine Art Blog

Mary Ann Carroll is one of the original "Highwaymen" and the only woman in the bunch.  Mary is a wonderful lady and a great Florida artist.  She took a long break from painting to raise her children but is back painting and traveling the State.  A joy to talk with, Mary is one of our Florida treasures.  Make sure to go see her if you can. Welcome to my new blog!

Flafineart Blog focuses on the visual arts in Florida with a little
architecture and food along the way. “Truth, Beauty, and Some Stories
to Tell” is how I would describe it.

My name is Glenn Lochrie and I live in sunny South Florida.  I'm an
award winning art dealer, art appraiser and judge of art competitions
with 15 years experience.  My love for art has taken me to beautiful
far away places but it’s my home, Florida, which keeps me excited.
