St. Augustine's 450th Anniversary Commemoration
Menéndez de Aviles formally established St. Augustine with a mass of
Thanksgiving along the banks of the Matanzas River on September 8, 1565,
making it the longest continuously occupied European city in the United
States. To commemorate 450 years since St. Augustine was established,
there are many activities planned around the anniversary date, beginning
on September 4, 2015.
The festivities kick off on Friday, September 4,
with a music and street festival that takes over downtown. Then on the
anniversary day a full morning of activity is planned throughout the
city. The Spanish fiesta feel continues with a food and wine festival
and other community events throughout September to Celebrate 450!
Read on to see how you can be a part of this historic moment for St. Augustine.
