This show is open for participation to all South Florida Artists!

Hip to Be Square: Square Show 3

I know reading can be hard, but you MUST read all the important info below in order to participate!

Who can put art in this show?
This art show is OPEN to all artists living in South Florida. You do not need to submit your artwork for approval ahead of time. How do we define the area of South Florida? If you can drop-off and pick-up your artwork IN-PERSON and ON-TIME you can participate! We do not accept any mailed-in entries, nor will we return any artwork via mail for any of our "all locals welcome" shows.

What do I have to do to join?
If you are certain that you will be taking part of this show, then please RSVP by Friday, December 14th at midnight & you will be included on the printed flyer & receive email reminders. To RSVP, simply email your "artist name" exactly as you want it to appear - in the body of the message to us at rsvp@bearandbird.com
Once the RSVP deadline passes, you can still join in - you just won't be listed on the printed flyer. Simply read and follow the instructions below and bring your work in ON TIME and READY TO HANG.

What are the requirements/rules?

Limit ONE piece of artwork per person.

Art MUST BE PERFECTLY SQUARE IN SHAPE and no larger than 14”x14” in total size. NOT Square in Size = NOT Accepted. Creating your work SMALLER than the maximum size is encouraged and usually gets better placement. Don't attempt to be "clever" and do a painting of a square in a circle canvas; it is not acceptable and you will be turned away.

Artwork for this show can be of any subject matter or theme that you choose. You are restricted only by shape and size. It may be created in any medium, as long as it is within the size limit and is a SQUARE. Yes, that includes sculptures. Bring only your best work! If you're going to do this at all, DO IT RIGHT and make your mamma proud!! Here is a link to the artwork in the Square Show from last year to give you ideas.

Please note the three additional requirements below.
These are simple, obvious and should be common sense, if you do not adhere to them you will be turned away!

1: Artwork must be able to be handled/stored. You absolutely must provide a display case if your work is fragile and/or cannot be touched!

Do not bring in artwork that is WET to the touch. It will not be accepted, even if you "just finished it". Do not include food of any kind or dead animal parts, this causes ANTS! We will not accept anything that includes mirrors or glass of any kind unless it is completely sealed and impossible to fall off.

2: Your artwork MUST have a proper hanger and hang on the wall from ONE nail on the back side.

Do not bring in stretched canvases without a hanger on the back, you will be sent away to add a hanger! Simple sawtooth hangers can be found easily... Home Depot, Lowes, Wal-Mart, craft stores, etc. They are CHEAP and easy to install. Picture hanging wires are also good. We WILL NOT ACCEPT taped-on or glued wires or tape of any kind. It never holds for long. Ever!! Trust us, putting a hanger on your artwork is easy - just do it and don't pout about it!

3: DO NOT USE FRAMES WITH HUGE MOLDINGS OR MATTE BOARD larger than the max size, YOUR ARTWORK WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.

We have limited space, which is why we have the size limit in the first place. Think about how you will present your artwork before you "finish" it. Don't think you are being "clever' by using a huge frame/matte to get noticed, its just tacky.

Deadline?
Your artwork may be 'for sale' or 'for display only' that is your decision. Complete details will be on the registration form that you must fill out when you drop off your artwork. If you have any questions, please email us before coming in.

Drop off your artwork at TATE’S downstairs register, Monday December 17, 2012 - Sunday, January 6, 2013. Early submissions are not accepted.

FINAL DROPOFF Deadline: Sunday, January 6, 2013 at 5pm No late exceptions.
Please note our hours of operation! Mon/Tues/Thurs 11am-8pm; Wed 9am-8pm; Fri & Sat 11am-9pm; Sun Noon-6pm Our staff will not open early or stay open late for you to drop off.
You absoutely MUST be able to pick up your artwork after the show ends!
 
PICKUP STARTS: Saturday, March 2 at 11am
Pickup window: Saturday, March 2 - Sunday, March 17, 2013
Artwork not picked up by 3/17/13 will be considered abandoned and will be donated to charity.

Hip to Be Square: Square Show 3 opens on Friday, October 5th and is on display until March 2, 2013
 
Opening Night Artist Reception: Friday, January 18, 2013 from 6-10pm
There will be a huge opening night party!! Woo! More info on that as it gets closer.
Show participants will be contacted via email with reminders for opening events and art pickup. You will NOT be called on the phone and reminded. Make sure to add us to your "approved" incoming email list, so we don't get chucked in the spam folder!
